Tear Out and Rehab!
These are progress photos of a Hardwood Flooring project in Iowa City where the customer was not at all satisfied with the tile that existed in the house they had purchased.  Top Shelf believes in restoring over replacing and saving over wasting.  For a third of the cost of a new floor we rehabilitated the floors under the existing tiles.
Take a look!

These are custom designed, cut, and installed Walnut floors laid in a beautiful historic home overlooking the Iowa River in Iowa City.  The owner asked for something "unique" that fit the style, period, and distinction of the residence. We believe we delivered!

These floors, while beautiful and intricate, are surprisingly affordable.  This is because Top Shelf is able to construct all pieces on-site rather than purchase expensive and generic looking inlays.  Another example of how top notch skill saves money.

Rustic Walnut 2 1/4" Waterboure finish

These are a few examples of projects Top Shelf has done over the past year or so.  The First is a beautiful bathroom remodel we did start to finish.  This picture was taken to showcase the tile floor/custom tile shower.

The next are a couple pictures of stair framing in mid-stage and then planning.

And of course what we love most, floors!
This is an example of a sand and finish with a stain applied.

Brazilian Walnut (Ipe)
These photos show the beauty of a custom install of Ipe and the quality of Top Shelf's Craftmanship. The maple woodwork in this photo had to be removed, then the old flooring taken out, the new installed and the maple woodwork put back into place. We think it looks great. The customers did as well. Ipe is yet another hardwood with which Top Shelf is accustomed to working. In Fact it is the hardest wood available as flooring in the United States. It also presents some challenges in terms of sandability and adhesion of finish. But as you can see, Top shelf is up to the task.

Now that is a smooth finish.

Top Shelf Flooring brings new life
to a Classic Iowa Four-Square

These before and after photos show how a sand and refinish can recover the beauty and elegance hidden under years of wear and tear. These floors were not in that bad of shape when Top Shelf was asked to lend advice to this project. There were however different finishes in different rooms and the floors had seen normal discoloration from sunlight and rugs and even a brick fireplace that had been built over ten square feet of the hardwood. Top Shelf never suggests a job be done when it is not absolutely necessary. In this instance our advice was: "If the floors bother you then it's time to refinish". Our customers decided to do a full sand and refinish and the results were phenominal.

As you can see the wood work and the floors are beautiful together and the "dirty" look of the old finish has been replaced by a uniform colored, beautifully smooth, and classically elegant Oak Floor. These pictures were taken after the second coat (water-bourne polyurethane) and before the final buff and last coat of finish. A customer can expect slightly more build on the finish and all the little imperfections to be buffed out and finished. In other words, although these photos represent a beautiful floor, they are not yet good enough to be a Top Shelf Floor.
